Week of September 23-27

Here are our objectives for the week:
ScienceI can identify and observe changes in materials by heating and cooling these materials.

MathI can order numbers and identify patterns on a number line.

ReadingI can discover the importance of reading, in order to experience an emotional response (a passion to learn or compassion for others).

Phonics: I can create words using the -ipe and -ide patterns.

Grammar: I can identify the parts of a complete sentence.

WritingI can brainstorm, organize and sequence ideas to write a story.

College Week

This week is college week at Robertson!

Monday: Listen to College Spirit Songs as we start our day. Each morning we will play a school song from a different college band.

Tuesday: Go future Lone Star Rangers! Wear navy or silver to support your future high school.

Wednesday: Team up for college! Wear your favorite college t-shirt or colors.

Thursday: Look to your bright future! Wear sunglasses.

Friday: Wear your school spirit shirts to show how bright your future is!

Week of September 16-20

Here are our learning objectives for the week:

Reading: I can describe main characters including their traits, motivations, and feelings.

Writing: I can identify the main idea in a piece of writing.

Math: I can describe why a number is greater than or less than another number based on what I know about place value.

Science: I can classify matter by physical properties, including shape, relative mass, relative temperature, texture, flexibility, and whether material is solid or liquid.

Grammar: I can capitalize days of the week and months.

Social Studies: I can tell about the importance of the U.S. Constitution and the history of Frisco.

Week of September 9-13

Here are our objectives for the week:

ScienceI can identify and group solids and liquids.

MathI can use concrete and pictorial models to represent 1,200 in various ways.

ReadingI can identify and follow the expectations of partner reading.

Phonics: I can create words using the -og and -um patterns.

Grammar: I can capitalize proper nouns correctly.

WritingI can be a part of a successful writing partnership

Career/College Week

Do you have 15/20 minutes to come and share your college/career with your students class the week of September 16th – 20th?

If you do, please contact me and tell them you want to share! We want all students to be encouraged to start thinking about what they want to be when they grow up and of course about college. Last year we had many Parents who presented their interesting careers to the class.

Week of September 3-6

Here are our objectives for the week:

Science: I can classify the physical properties of matter by exploring and experimenting.

Math: I can use concrete objects to create numbers up to 1,200.

Reading: I can think about a book to decide if it is easy, "just right", or challenging.

Grammar: I can identify a proper noun.

Writing: I can add details to my writing in pictures and words.

Curriculum Night

We hope you will be able to join us for Curriculum Night Tuesday, September 3. The times are as follows:
-Kinder/5th—5:30-6:15
-2nd/4th—6:30-7:15
-1st/3rd—7:15-8:00

Curriculum Night will be different than previous years. This year we will be sending out a podcast with a PowerPoint for you to view and reference regarding procedures and expectations for second grade. For curriculum night, we will have stations set up in our classrooms pertaining to reading, writing, and math instruction.

We have been working hard to plan a night that will be both informational as well as provide some insight on the instruction your child is receiving each day. We hope you are able to join us!
